May/Read-a-Thin TBR

Hello Beautiful People. So this month instead of being crazy and making a ton of TBRs that I don’t follow through with, I’m going to hopefully just have the one TBR and then read extra if I feel in the mood or if I can get these books done. I do of course have one book for every challenge, because my TBR needs some series thinning ASAP. So let’s just get in to the books, I’ll explain the challenges below!

1. Buddy Read The Group Book
Love, Life, and the List by Kasie West

2. Read a Book with a Superhero Theme

Batman Nightwalker by Marie Lu

3. Read a Retelling

Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston

4. Read a book Featuring a Mental Illness

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

5. Read a New Release

Defy The Worlds by Claudia Gray

6. Read a manga/graphic novel (or read a short story/poetry collection)
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

7. Read a book out of your comfort zone
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

 8. Read one of the books recommended by the hosts
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (Jessica’s Pick)
I’m already reading my pick and I’ve previously read Amanda’s as well. My version of this is an ebook and is not pictured above.

 9. Read a book with your favorite color on the cover
Love & Other Train Wrecks by Leah Konen

 10. Read a book that is a part of a series
Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch

11. Read a book you’ve been meaning to get to but haven’t
Beneath The Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

12. Read a book you started but ended up putting down
City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

13. Read a book with a MC that is the opposite of you
I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

 14. Read a book that was either gifted to you by your mother/grandmother or a book that is related to a mother in some way
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

So two of these are going to be rereads. One is to help me work on finishing a series, The other will be the first reread of the year of my favorite book. But other than that all of these will be books off my TBR that I have been needing to read. I hope you all have an awesome reading month, let me know your TBR below.

November Read-A-Thin TBR

It’s almost here! I can’t believe tomorrow starts the second round of Read-A-Thin. If you’re participating and have made some sort of TBR post somewhere and want to share it with me feel free to leave it in the comments. In true over achiever fashion I have picked a book for every single challenge, but I have doubled some challenges on a couple books, and I’ll also be participating in a couple other read-a-thons this month so this is not my total TBR, but I have overlapped some of these books in to other challenges for those read-a-thons. I’m thinking I might post those TBRs closer to those dates. But until then, here is what I plan to read (mostly) for this month.

-Read a 2017 release

All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis

-Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway)

The last and final challenge is to read 4 books completing a total of 8 challenges, so of course for me I will have to read a minimum of 6 books to complete 8 challenges, but hopefully I can be up for the task. Of course like I said if you have a TBR feel free to link it below and can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow to kick off that Read-A-Thin reading and to talk about my October Wrap Up!

Read-A-Thin Round 2 Announcement

It’s baaAAaack.

Hey guys and welcome back to the blog, and if you’re new and not sure what this post is about let me fill you in a little. Back in August Myself, Amanda @ A Court of Books and Love, and Jessica @ JessicaMarie493 hosted our very first ever Readathon. This was a month long reading challenge where the goal was to read books that you already owned to help thin down your TBR. So there was no buying books to fit challenges or using library books. This month we’re changing things up a little to try and make it easier to not only participate in our Readathon, but  in other Readathons that are going to be happening this time around.

So I’m sure you’re asking yourself “Chelsea, when exactly is this readathon happening?” Well! We’re going to be hosting another month long Read-A-Thin this November! This way we can thin down those TBRs before Christmas time rolls around and we start getting gift cards and books for presents. This month the goal for books read is an actual challenge so the only basic rule is the books you read are already on your TBR, because that’s what we’re working on here folks! I also know you must be excited to know what the challenges are, so let me get to those, WITH EXAMPLES. (although I am gonna be lazy and not link the books to Goodreads in this post, I KNOW I KNOW, I’m sorry)

What Are The Challenges?
Keep in mind the pictures are just examples if you’re having a hard time understanding the challenge, you are by no means required to read one of the books shown for it to count for the challenge.

-Read a 2017 release
32259911 25107416 33163378 33843362

-Read a Diverse Book
33385229 28101540 28243032 284585981

-Read a book related to your favorite emoji
Obviously this will be different for every person, you just think of what your favorite emoji and relate it to a book whether it be the plot, the cover, the characters. However you relate it to your favorite emoji works!

-Read a book with a fall themed cover
21469068 31556153 3157877 17164676

-Start and Finish a Series
23299512 32075662 23437156 22299763

-Read a book in 24 hours
8621462 15283043 32470611 10507293

-Read a New to You Author
Read a book written by an author that you haven’t read something by them before

-Buddy Read a book
Read a book with someone else!

-Read a horror/thriller
15797848 32957193 32796253 20640318

-Read a book outside your favorite genre
Again, this is just going to depend on the person, if you mostly read one type of genre, just find a diffe
rent one and pick a book from it and give it a try!

-Read an eBook
We’ve all got em. I know I love BookBub emails for all the free ebooks that I just download and they start stacking up. I’m scared to look at my ebook library.

-Listen to an audiobook of a book you own
Libraries are a great way to go about this. Most have either Hoopla or Overdrive or even other apps you can download and easily check out audiobooks. So give them a check and see if they have an audiobook for a book you already own and try reading it that way!

-Read a book that counts towards another readathon
November is the month of Readathons, so hopefully you have an easy time with this. If not I know of Contemporary-a-thon, Emoji-a-thon, Borrow-a-thon that are all going on during November that are all about week long read-a-thons that all have their own challenges.

-Read a book that is due back to the library the soonest
Again, this just depends on you! Work on getting those library books back on time, don’t be like me and earn all the late fees!

-Read a book you ended up putting down previously

-Read a book you got from a subscription box
This can be literally any subscription box. Owlcrate, BookCaseClub, Litcrate, Fairyloot, ALL THE SUBSCRIPTION BOXES

-Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway)

-Read 4 books (Complete at least 8 challenges)
Go look back through this list, pick 8 challenges and try and make a book work for 2 each. Not too bad and getting 4 books read in a month should be a breeze!

Read-A-Thin/August TBR!

Hey Everyone and welcome to the blog. So if you’re not aware, Read-a-Thin starts in just One Week! What am I doing with my life?? So I need to tell you all my TBR because I am beyond excited to get to reading some of my own books next month and making a dent in that ever growing TBR. So I’m going to show the books and the challenges they complete, let me know if you plan to join and if you have a post for your TBR! All pictures are links to the Goodreads page for the book in case you wanna see what they’re all about!

Read a 2017 Release

Read a book that is the same color (or a similar color) as your birthstone
One of my Birthstones is an Amethyst which is usually either purple or green, it changes in the light, so I figured a mostly purple book could work!

Read a diverse book284585981

How many TBRs have I put this on now?? It’s really getting read this month, I swear!

Read a book with a title or author with the same first letter as the first letter in your first name18075234

My first name is Chelsea, this starts with C, simpleeeee

Read a book that is related to your favorite emoji29523625

My favorite emoji is the crying while laughing face and I feel with all the 90’s references that are supposed to be in the book that hopefully it lives up to that emoji.

Read a book starting with a letter from TBR (the word “the” does not count)16034235Yes, yes, yes, I’m finally going to join the hype of this Sarah J. Maas series as well

Read a book with a summer themed cover23281823

Read a book with a warm colored cover (orange, red, yellow, brown)18798983

Start and finish a series

So this is an example of a box set that I bought and haven’t touched yet. Also, Amanda read these last month (July) and I really want to read them now too because I saw her read them back to back to back. Also, I have no idea why the last book is off allignment, it’s killing me too

Read a book in 24 hours28243032

Read a new to you author31707102

Book with water on the cover

Read a book set in summer

Buddy read a book

So I know this may be a little cheesy, but my mom and I are going to start a re-read of the Harry Potter series and I bought her a paperback of the first book and I’m going to read my new Hufflepuff edition!

Read a book recommended to you by someone in the book community

I’m making this one count, because I love Julie and I’ve had this for way too long without reading it while everyone else is loving it.

Read a guilty pleasure read
The first book proved to be quiet the guilty pleasure, so of course I need to continue on the series with the second book! Plus I need this love triangle to be squashed. #TeamMaxon

Read an adult/new adult book

Read a book outside of your favorite genre
Yet another repeat, I’ve been wanting to read this for awhile, and my favorite genre is contemporary where this is a mystery/thriller!

Also, the Reading Rainbow-along starts next month which is hosted by DylantheReader5 and some of his friends on Goodreads. The goal of that read along is to read one Raibow Rowell book a month in publication order and the first book I haven’t read yet so I’m in!

And lastly, Tome Topple is going to be running in the middle of this month so of course I’m going to add a handfull of Tomes to try and Topple, but also keeping to the Read-a-Thin and making sure that I own them already, here are the 3 I’m going to try to read.

So of course, I go overboard every read-a-thon and try to fill each challenge, so needless to say with my own read-a-thon I would do the same thing. With all the other reading related things going on this month as well, I have set myself up one ambitious TBR with most likely failure at the end, but it’s worth a try right. Fingers crossed for all this reading!

Read-A-Thin Announcement!

I have some super exciting news to tell you all about today! For the entire month of August, Amanda from A Court of Books and Love, Jessica from JessicaMarie493, and Myself are going to be hosting a Read-A-Thon! You may be thinking, hey Chelsea, you spelt it wrong in your title, but that’s where you’re wrong. We first started tossing around names for our Read-A-Thon and we joked about it being a Read-A-Thin and after that it just kind of stuck.

What kind of Read-A-Thon??

So the main goal of this Read-A-Thon is to read books that you already own, that way we can Thin Down our TBRs. We all know how fun it is to get new books but we also know the stress of having your TBR start piling up on you, so this way we can all work together on making a dent in that TBR and getting to some of the books on our shelves we’ve been talking about getting to. We also plan to host this every few months to keep us going strong on thinning out that TBR, so when the time comes for those we’ll keep you updated as well.

What are the rules??

For this round our goal is to complete 6 total challenges, out of a total of 18. I know that sounds like a whole lot, but we are allowing each book to complete 2 challenges. So in the end the minimum of books you can read in the entire month is 3, which isn’t too bad although I hope we all end up getting to more than that! Other than that the only other rule is to have already owned or ordered the whatever book you put on your TBR before the month begins, if not we’re not really thinning out our TBR we already have now are we??

I know how important this part is so we can all plan our official Read-A-Thon TBRs ahead of time, so let’s just go ahead and get right in to the challenges!

-Read a 2017 Release
-Read a book the same (or similar) color as your birth stone
-Read a diverse book
-Read a book with a title or author that starts with the first letter of your name
(A and The do not count!)
-Read a book related to your favorite emoji
-Read a book starting with a letter from TBR
(again, The does not count)
-Read a book with a summer themed cover
-Read a warm colored book
(orange, yellow, red, brown)
-Start & Finish a series
-Read a book in 24 hours
-Read a new to you Author
-Read a book with water on the cover
-Read a book set in Summer
-Buddy read a book
-Read a recommended book by someone in the community
-Read a guilty pleasure
-Read an adult/new adult book
-Read a book OUTSIDE of your favorite genre

Now I know there are some daunting tasks in this, but remember, just complete 6 challenges! If you have any questions about what fits a challenge or if one just doesn’t make sense to you feel free to reach out to one of us and we will be glad to help you!

We Need Your Help!!

Right now we’re working on setting up our sprint calendar for this Read-A-Thon. If you’re not sure what a sprint is, it’s usually an allotted amount of time chosen by the host to specifically just read, and they are typically held on Twitter. After the sprint everyone tweets about how much they were able to read and it’s just a fun way to come together as a community to work and support each other in reading our TBRs. Which brings me to the help we need! We’re looking for some Twitter Sprint Hosts. If you would like to spend a day hosting sprints on our Twitter page, just message myself, Amanda, or Jessica on any of our social media letting us know what day you’re interested in. We’ll be setting up the calendar here towards the end of the month and once that is set up we’ll let everyone know their scheduled days.

Where you can contact us!!

I really hope to see you all next month while we work on thinning out our TBRs together. If you’re reading this and it’s almost August PLEASE post your TBR below because I would absolutely LOVE to see what you have planned! Happy Reading.
